Funding for professional development

We know that budgets are always tight so we are compiling a list of sources of funds that can be used for professional development. Here are some that we are familiar with in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. If you know of others please let us know so we can add them to the list.

 

Iowa Conservation and Preservation Consortium

IMLS Museums Empowered: Professional Development Opportunities for Museum Staff
Museums Empowered: Professional Development Opportunities for Museum Staff, a special initiative of the Museums for America grant program, supports staff capacity building projects that use professional development to generate systemic change within a museum. Canadian Museums Association Professional Development
The Canadian Museums Association has professional development bursaries available for Emerging and Mid-Career Professionals.

Emerging Professional Development bursaries are given out to promote the exchange of knowledge and learning between museum professionals at the beginning of their careers. The program provides financial assistance to individuals to attend short courses, seminars, and workshops.

Bursaries for Mid-Career Professional Development are given out to build new competencies and increase individual and institutional performance. Bursaries are provided for specialized museum studies at a national or international level, such as specialized courses, seminars, workshops and symposia, as well as professional exchanges that promote continuous learning.

UK Association of Independent Museums (AIM) Training Grants
