What is Involved in Taking a Museum Study Course?

Most Museum Study courses are 4 weeks long. The exception to that is our Decolonizing Museums in Practice course which is an 8 week long course.

Almost everything is contained in our online learning management system. Some courses have readings from a textbook. Most of the textbooks we use come from Rowman and Littlefield and participants will have the option of using our discount to purchase a copy from them.

In general, you can expect to spend 6 – 10 hours a week on our courses. Some courses are a little more reading heavy like the Decolonizing course. Each week typically contains one or more lessons from the instructor, supplemental readings, passive discussions, and other activities like assignments and occasionally a quiz. We also meet once a week for an hour on Zoom to discuss the topics covered that week. Typically, we schedule the Zoom session at the beginning of the course so we can accommodate everyone’s location and schedule. The only scheduled event each week is the Zoom, the rest of the work you can do any time that is convenient for you.

In most courses all you will need to access and participate in the course is a computer with internet access, a browser such as Firefox, and the free Acrobat Reader. Sometimes you may want to use a spreadsheet or word processing software.

Those who successfully complete the course material and demonstrate proficiency in the topic will receive an Digital Badge to represent your achievement.
